Direct and Indirect Speech

Made By Donghae eomma di 02.52 0 komentar

1. Direct Speech
Direct Speech refers to reproducing another person's exact words or saying exactly what someone has said (sometimes called quoted speech)
Here what a person says appears within quotation marks (''...") and should be word for word.
For Example:
She said,''I go to school every day.''
2. Indirect Speech
Indirect speech reproducing the idea of another person's word what doesn't use question mark to enclose what the person said and it doesn't have to be word for word.Indirect speech is sometimes called reported speech.
For Example:
• Direct: He said, “I am glad to be here this evening.”
• Indirect: he said that he was glad to be there that evening.

Verb tense changes also characterize other situations using indirect speech. Note the changes shown in the chart and see the table below for examples. With indirect speech, the use of that is optional.
